Breeding at Batandra Park is strongly influenced by the requirement to produce quiet, easy doing cattle with good temperament, fertility & structural soundness. Initially quality females were sourced from leading studs & our replacement heifers have been selected on the strong basis of length, bone, muscling, temperament & mothering ability.
Embryo transfer has been utilized to produce high quality brahmans & strengthen the genetics in our herd while maintaining fertility and structural soundness. We embarked on our first embryo transfer program in October 2002 using grey sires JDH Karu 800 and TWA Grande Bo 104 over donor cows Condor Wattle 196 and Brahrock Miss Sue Anna 2587. We completed eleven E/T programs with progeny from these programs forming the strong genetics in our breeders. Other grey sires used successfully in our programs include V8 Superstroke 287/5, JJ Doss Press 8, JDH Bross Manso 949/2, Mr V8 690/4, WR Mr Sid 305. Red semen utilized in E/T AI includes Abbotsford Duracell, Fairy Springs Red Dollar, Tartrus Redmont, BB Mr Sting Ray 10/0, NCC Zambian and VL Rojo Bravo 2/28.
In June 2009 we completed an IVF program utilizing Tartrus Redmont, and JDH Brandon Manso semen.
We ran an AI program early in 2008 using grey semen JDH Mr Manso 506/2 and WR Mr Sid 305 and red semen of our poll sire Batandra Duracell (Abbotsford Duracell(P) X Fairy Springs Red Dollar). In our 2009 AI program we used grey 506/2 and JDH Brandon semen and red poll semen Palmvale Atomic Sting and Batandra Duracell (P) as well as Lancefield D Robinson semen. In 2012 25 red heifers were AI'd to Billabong CP Columbus and poll sires Edenglassie Magnum, Batandra Duracell and Batandra Carlos.
The balance of our Grey herd is progeny of Eureka Creek Midas, Myeden Tyson, Lancefield D Lawlor and Mr Karock 012, Clukan Toby (JDH Madison De Manso X Kabala Missouri) and red progeny of Wandarri Elton.
Red poll sires Alinta KA Red Kestrel, GI Saxton, Long Acres Paul, Adamac Charlie, Elmo Arizona and Pine Crest Victa have given us several generations of poll bloodlines to complement our breeder herd.
Our aim is to maintain a line of structurally sound fertile breeders with good udders.
